Frederick Gardens is a twitten of houses built in the 1820s, linking Gloucester Road to North Road. Nowadays it is overshadowed by the Post Office sorting office and appears rather dark as a result. The fronts of the houses have changed little and you get a very good feeling for what the North Laine would have been like many years ago. At the end of the terrace is The Pond, see below, rebuilt in 1908. It was closed in 1967 and became  variously an antique shop, casinio training school and  then a restaurant before reverting once again to a public house.
